Jeff and Kathy's Roadtrips
Kathy and Jeff's Roadtrips

This is my friend Kathy and her family. Her 2 brothers (the twins), her parents, her sister-in-law, and her nephew.
She lives in Newport News Virginia. I used to live there as well.
She taught me quite a bit when I lived there. We hung out together all the time. This is us at Cheddars Restaurant
playing NTN trivia game. We sure spent a lot of time there. The servers even knew what we were going to order before
we sat down. Kathy even assumed the roll of hostess a few times.
Since we lived so close, we would take trips to historic Williamsburg quite often. This is Kathy showcasing her musical
talent on a woodwind instrument that she found in Williamsburg. Here is the old Capital also in Williamsburg.
Even closer to home, we visited the Mariners Museum right in Newport News. Check out this calliope that was salvaged
from a sunken vessel. It was a really neat museum. There were old figureheads from ships, lots of relics from shipwrecks,
and a lot of really interesting stuff. Back behind the museum is a lake with ducks. Here are some of the sights from behind
the museum.
Also in Newport News is the S.P.C.A. It is an animal shelter for pets waiting to be adopted. By the way, please recycle your
newspapers by bringing them to your local animal shelter. They always need newspapers to keep the cages clean. Anyway, in back
of the shelter is a petting zoo with several large cats and other wild animals in cages. Here are some of the deer in the petting
zoo area. And a 6 month old tiger in his cage ready to take a snooze.
Over at Buckroe Beach you can get great sunrise pictures. Although I don't currently have any, maybe Kathy will send me a few
and I can get them on here. My brother really likes lighthouses and at Buckroe there is a children's playhouse in the shape of
a lighthouse. Actually this is only about 8 feet tall and has a slide out of the other side but Scott didn't know that when I had
this picture blown up to 8X10 and gave it to him for Christmas.
A bit further north is Charlottesville. Home of the Virginia Cavaliers, Ash Lawn Highlands, Monticello, and lots of wineries.
We took a roadtrip here one weekend. We had a flat tire on the way up there but luckily there was a nice man who changed the tire for
us since we couldn't loosen the lug nut. Anyway, we went to Charlottesville to see Kathy's son, Christopher, in an American Revolution
re-enactment. The next day we did a bit of sight-seeing and wine tasting. Here is a cask of a lovely 1994 Cabernet. Kathy's camera
got some great shots of the grapes before they were crushed to wine. It was spring-time when we visited so there were lots of
beautiful wildflowers along the highway ont he way home.
Just before I moved back to Florida, Kathy and I went to visit her nephew in D.C. It was a great weekend. He was our tour guide for
the first day (Saturday). Luckily the weekend we were there was the celebration for the 150th Birthday of the Smithsonian. The Mall was
covered with musicians, food vendors, dancers, storytellers, etc. Here's KC infront of one of the museum buldings. Unfortunately the
Bureau of Engraving and Printing was not passing out samples when we were there. This is a view from inside the Natural History Museum.
Mr. Washington-the father of our country sits eternally in the American History Museum. Although I took what seems like millions of
pictures of the Washington Monument, I only posted one on here. It was such a beautiful day and the Monument just looked so majestic. So sue
me. I'm sure Kodak didn't mind. The Holocaust Memorial Museum was a most incredible experience. it is completely free but it does require tickets. They allow a certain number
of people in every fifteen minutes. If you ever visit D.C. make sure you put the Holocaust Museum on your itinerary. You will be glad you did.
It will be something you will remember forever. This is the Jefferson Memorial taken from the Interstate when we were heading back to the hotel.
This is as good as I could get the Pentagon. It was also taken from the car going 65 miles per our on the Interstate.
